The Val Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC) Auxiliary is a group of 35 active women and men who work approximately 600 to 900 hours per month for the hospital in many areas of service, including:
Proceeds from the gift shop and popcorn sales are given to the hospital to purchase equipment and other patient care items. For more information about the auxiliary, call Cookie Gulick, auxiliary director, at 830-778-3650 or stop by the hospital gift shop or human resources for a volunteer application.
Medicine tends to the physical needs of patients. VVRMC understands the importance of other needs. The chaplains strive to meet the spiritual needs of patients and their families. There are currently 18 volunteer chaplains from many different denominations who serve one week at a time on a rotating basis. These dedicated chaplains provide nondenominational support. For more information call Marvin Wood, pastoral care coordinator, at 830-775-8566, ext. 2253 or e-mail at marvin.wood@vvrmc.org.
Hospice provides medical care, comfort and emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families. The hospice team is made up of the patient’s physician, skilled nurses and aides, ancillary technicians, social services personnel and volunteers. Some of the volunteers have special training, such as chaplains. Others have a special reason for sharing their compassion.
