Val
Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC) is located in Del Rio,
Texas. Coined the “Best of the Border”, Del Rio is located on
the Texas-Mexico border, along the Rio Grande River. Del Rio’s
sister city in Mexico is Ciudad Acuña. Del Rio is connected with
Ciudad Acuña via the Lake Amistad Dam International Crossing and
Del Rio-Ciudad Acuña International Bridge.
Del
Rio is the county seat for Val Verde County. It is located midway
between Padre Island and Big Bend National Park. Del Rio is 150
miles from San Antonio to the east and 154 miles from San Angelo
to the north. Approximately 40,000 people reside in the city.
Del Rio is a natural oasis in the Chihuahuan Desert with San Felipe
Springs bringing 150 million gallons of pure water each day through
creeks and canals.
Lake
Amistad is 12 miles northwest of Del Rio. The dam and lake are
managed jointly by the governments of the United States and Mexico
through the International Boundary and Water Commission. Lake
Amistad provides year-round, water-based recreational opportunities,
including boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving and water skiing,
as well as other recreational opportunities, such as picnicking,
camping and hunting. The area is rich in artifacts and rock
art and contains a wide variety of plant and animal life.
Del
Rio is also home to Laughlin Air Force Base, the busiest pilot-training
base in the United States. VVRMC serves Laughlin Air
Force Base and its military community.
